Research project.

I’m currently completing an MA in HRM at Newcastle University and I will soon have to submit a proposal for my management research report. I would like to take advantage of this opportunity and get some research experience in an organisation.

Are organisations, in general, willing to help students like me? How should I approach organisations? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Denisa

Firstly, have you contacted your local CIPD branch?  They might have some suggestions or at the very least going to their events will allow you to network with HR people in the area.

Secondly what sort of topic are you thinking of for your management report?  Can you identify something that might be of tangible use to an organisation in your area and target them with a proposal specifically?  You might be able to come up with a few targeted ideas you can pitch to different businesses?  Although I would recommend picking a topic you are interested in - it makes the work a lot easier!

    Hope that helps

  • Hi Jackie,

Thank you very much for replying. I have talked to a few CIPD members from the North East branch and will continue to do so. However, they haven't so far been able to help me in terms of access into an organisation. I chose to  ask people in a more general way because I thought that being more specific in terms of what kind of project I would be interested in would limit my chances even more. I tried to find the "where" first and then focus on the "what". But since that is not currently going very well, I will certainly start thinking about topics and target local businesses with a more specific proposal.

    Thank you again.
