Day 4 on our new community going live, so thought I would ask for feedback as to how people are finding the platform.

What areas are working well?

Is the navigation logical?

How easily are you finding content?

We'd welcome your feedback so we can continue to improve the experience.

Thanks

Jenny

Clicking around there seems to be a lot of links that don't work.

I can't find how to PM people. All the other issues I'm experiencing have been mentioned elsewhere so I think you're already aware of them and working on fixes.

    In reply to Craig:

Hi Craig... links to threads in the 'old' community are not 'mapped' to the new one. Impossible job. Some of those links will be to very old threads.

I am putting the (new) links back in where I see them.

    I'm struggling!
I get directed every time I look at the new communities to the old/new log in page where I'm greeted by "welcome David Wedgwood Perry". I Login, then for /most/many of the boards I get logged out again, even when it lets me read it. So straying into unfamiliar posts or ones which may older simply gets me logged out again and I've got to go through the whole rigmarole again and hope that I don't get logged out by another thread I try to open which is what got me here. I daren't go to another link provided on the forum page incase I get logged out. Again.

I notice that I appear to have over 120 notifications and 47 unread messages. Which, if I open shows me the first one which is years old, and I then get logged out if I try another.

I've tried editing out my middle name, and I think Steve tried to do that for me. I also e-mailed CIPD following their webpage "contact us" asking for my middle name to be removed mentioning in total frustration that this is certainly in breach of the DPA. That was a few days ago and I've only had an automated answer! I wonder how my name will appear after this post? Lets see!

And of course I got logged out again after posting that post. My middle name is still appearing next to my old mug. I assume it does to everyone else?

I'll hit reply and get logged out again. Here goes::;;;;...................bi.....

    In reply to David Perry:

Hi David... your email was forwarded to me at 13:59 today, ad I have responded to you.

The unread notifications will be historical private messages that were brought over to this new community platform from then old one. We're working on a 'mark all as read' fix.

    In reply to Steve Bridger:

I would like it to be clearer when there is a new reply to a discussion. That function was available in the old community but you have to click into a discussion to see if there are any new contributions... or remember how many there were to start with!

I would also appreciate not having to log in every time, I am logged into the CIPD site, and that was previously enough. I dip into the communities a few times usually through the day and signing in is a faff.

    Thanks!

I love it - but I tend to be an early adopter :-)

Sign in / out is only issue I have really found - its a bit of a faff but not fatal and am sure will be sorted in due course

Think the ability to sort from the drop down boxes is a great addition. Have even searched for the odd thread with no responses !

    Better success with a tablet.

But unless I'm doing something wrong:-
It appears that after you've read all the answers to a longish thread, to reply to the OP then you've got to scroll all the way to the top back to the OP to hit their 'reply to' button.

I don't see any value in the pop up 'Related Community Content". It gets in the way, it pops up with annoying frequency such as hitting the mouse button etc., etc., and clearly the OP didn't use it when they posted, The content is also tagged only by keywords. So the pop up window has related community content as a) feedback for rejecting candidates. b) 360 degree feedback, and c) giving feedback after an interview.

I hope the pop up button appears when people are composing questions as it may encourage them to search and look for similiar answers. If it pops up when they post following tagging their question then its rather late to be of use.

And using my Mac I still get logged out every time I go to another page or post.

I don't see any value in the pop up 'Related Community Content". It gets in the way, it pops up with annoying frequency such as hitting the mouse button and scrolling down, or up etc., etc., The content appears to be tagged only by keywords. So the pop up window associated with this thread has, "related community content", as a) feedback for rejecting candidates. b) 360 degree feedback, and c) giving feedback after an interview. So I can't see their relevance and I'd guess they are not going to be too helpful in other threads. Posters will probably just ignore them.

And using my Mac I still get logged out every time I go to another page or post, or as happened here hit the 'More" button to edit my post,

The Edit function hidden under a 'More' button is probably going to be the most beneficial advance over the old forum.

Given that forum design is pretty much standardised these days in that lay out, functions, editing, profiles and so on are all much the same and operate in virtually the same fashion,. So edit buttons always appear at the bottom of your last or recent posts clearly awaiting use. Quote buttons are in the same places on forums and so on. I wonder why the CIPD chose to have one designed from scratch. And design it differently? Sort of re-invent the wheel sort of thing??

I wonder how much this is all costing us?

Oh and the edit button didn't work for me!! I got a red button stating "Access Denied". Then logged out automatically. Again.

So I'll just repost the whole duplicate post with my edits.

I'm slowly finding my way round and like the look of it so far. Would it be possible to have a "return to top of the page" at the bottom as when you get to the end of comments scrolling back to the top is a bit of a faff. Thanks

    Clare
  • Hi Jenny,

I am slowly getting used to the new layout etc. It has taken a bit of time but it is getting there.

I think most of my frustrations have been mentioned elsewhere but I will list them in case!

    * Having to log in every time
    * Having to scroll to the bottom of each thread to get to the next page button (real pain on long threads as it only jumps one page at a time)
    * No ability to sort within a thread so the latest response is at the top or ability to jump to responses since last visit
    * Difficult to see on the front screen if there have been any further responses since you last read the discussion. Sometimes I can see that the title is a different colour - sometimes it is black and this is easy to see. Sometimes it is darker green and this is not so easy to see and sometimes it doesn't change at all.
    * Great that we now get email notifications as I never used to get these. However at first I was getting emails for everything and then altered my settings to try to only get notifications of stuff I had contributed to but now I don't get any notifications at all!
    * On the Discussion homepage there is one highlighted discussion and then a big block of the subject areas before seeing the rest of the discussions. I would love to be able to minimize this subject area block.
    * The related community content pop up is a nice idea but it pops up all the time! When responding to a thread just now it was covering the edge of the text box so I couldn't see what I was typing without closing it again.
    * Don't seem to be able to format text or insert bullets etc hence why I am using little stars.
*Having to scroll up to the top of a discussion to be able to reply to the original poster
    * No longer being able to click on a posters name and see the posts they have contributed to. This was useful sometimes if I could remember the name of someone who had posted but couldn't remember the title to be able to search.

Most of these are very small annoyances. At first I really didn't like the new layout etc but I am slowly getting used to it and I can see the many advantages over the old one.

Now this is a new strange thing. A few quite old posts have appeared on the front page seemingly as new posts... but no contributions since June, July time?
  • Hi Jenny
There are a number of things that are really annoying me and stopping me from using the site as much as I did in the past. These are:
Having to log in every time I go to view the discussions
    The related threads pop ups
Not being able to reply to a message unless I go back to the very top
Not knowing when something new has been posted unless I note down how many replies a topic has had initially

I'm curious as to why the CIPD decided to attempt to reinvent the wheel, when there are plenty of forums already available with all the bumps and rattles sorted out? Not only that but the conventions, layouts are similar so you don't have to struggle your way around a new forum.

For example, on every other forum, the convention is hit 'reply' to answer a post, and once written, hit, 'post' to upload your post. But here it is reply, and reply

Any answers please from CIPD staff??
