We are looking to revitalise our staff engagement technique - mainly staff surveys, any examples of effective surveys that have been analysed and proved positive? that can be forwarded to me for comparison?

Staff engagement has little to do with surveys and everything to do with management, approach and communications.
The most effective survey in the world wont increase greatly engagement IMO its what you do that matters.
Many employers survey their staff to boredom but never change anything.

I agree with everything mentioned above - but wonder if you found some solutions anyway?
If you focus on talking to organisations who have achieved major changes in staff engagement, you could explore using the Investors in People framework. When effectively used, I have seen this make major differences to staff engagement, through effective management and communication (Keith is right - staff engagement is the end product of good management and communication).
You should be able to talk to your local IIP Centre - they will have a number of IIP Champions who are usually very active in telling how it worked for them.
The framework includes surveys as a way to analyse progress in introducing effective management, communication, etc, but as alluded to here - it will be important that action is taken on the results of the survey.
