Join us at the CIPD Scotland Student Conference for a thought-provoking and inspirational day packed with practical learning and networking. The conference programme has been designed for all HR students, regardless of level, with a choice of sessions to give you excellent opportunities for exploring relevant case studies and career advice.

10:00 How can HR become more Evidence-Based?
Over the past 20 years many professions from policy makers to the police have attempted to work in a more evidence-based way. Essentially this means (see alsowww.cebma.org) using more and better quality evidence from four sources in their work: professional expertise, stakeholders, the context and academic research. Evidence-based professionals tend to be critical thinkers, sceptical of fads and fashions, and are very aware of the quantity and quality of evidence for their practices and decisions and therefore tend to be more effective. HR as a profession has yet to embrace an evidence-based approach. This presentation will consider what evidence-based HR looks like and some of the barriers to its implementation.
