Employment Law

Employment law addresses the legal rights of employees and employers. You’ll find here information on employment legislation and case law on employment-related topics not covered elsewhere. Our Employment Law at Work area for CIPD members has more detailed information and latest news.

There are other pages for specific aspects: age discrimination, bullying and harassment, data protection, disability, discipline and grievances, dismissal, employment tribunals, equal pay, health safety and well-being, maternity and parental rights, race discrimination, redundancy, religious discrimination, sex and sexual orientation discrimination, terms and conditions of employment, TUPE and working time.

Looking for an older report on aspects of employment law which is no longer on the website? The full-text of all our research publications and surveys from 1999 onwards is available to CIPD members from our HR and L&D database.

EU Referendum decision

For most businesses, the immediate impact of the UK’s decision to leave the EU will be limited as major changes won’t be able to occur for a while. However, employment law was a key theme in the campaign and some aspects will potentially be subject to change in future, and this will no doubt be on both employers’ and employees’ minds.

For information on the implications of Brexit both for employment law and more generally, see our Brexit hub.
