Welcome from the Chair
Thank you for visiting the Gloucestershire Branch site.
Although Gloucestershire is one of the smaller branches in the CIPD network, we are very proud that it is one of the most active. We have almost 1,500 members across Gloucestershire and are growing year on year.
I have recently taken over as Chair from my colleague Fiona Chatham who has done an excellent job in promoting the CIPD in the county. It is my wish to continue her good work and continue to grow the influence of the CIPD across the county.
Gloucestershire is proud to deliver an extensive programme of events aimed at HR professionals and those in allied professional roles at all stages of their careers, and across the whole spectrum of HR and L&D. We work hard to ensure that the events we run are topical, interesting and informative and welcome suggestions from our members for issues to cover. We also welcome offers from members and others to come and speak to our community on subjects of interest.
In addition, the branch offers a range of Special Interest Groups (or SIGs), CPD support and membership upgrade opportunities to assist you with continuous development in your professional career, as well as the opportunity to network with other professionals.
All those involved in the Branch are volunteers who readily give up their own time to represent the CIPD locally. Their dedication and commitment helps make the Branch so successful, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank them on your behalf.
Chair Gloucestershire CIPD
Events are at the core of engaging with our membership ‘face-to-face’. The Branch holds a series of events throughout the year, ranging from focused one-hour sessions on Employment Law ‘hot topics’ to practical skills development for training practitioners. We aim to offer a programme that appeals to the broad range of interests across HR and L&D throughout Gloucestershire. Events are held at a variety of venues throughout the county, at varying times of the day to cater for the needs of the membership.

Branch newsletter and emails
We provide an e-newsletter for all our members four times a year. If you are not receiving your copy of the Gloucestershire e-newsletter, please ensure that your email details are up-to-date on your Profile.
We also send regular emails about upcoming events.
Membership and CPD
The Branch actively supports members through the upgrading process, running regular Upgrading events as well as offering advice on the process through our Membership Advisers.
The Alan Murgatroyd Memorial fund was set up to commemorate the life of a very active CIPD member who was a key driver in developing the Gloucestershire Branch. Alan also taught on CIPD programmes and his major interest was that of students, their progression, their successes and their involvement in their professional body. In this respect the fund aims to continue the support that Alan personally provided to students during his life.
All students registered at a CIPD-approved centre in Gloucestershire will be entered into a draw and three students will have their membership fee for 2015 reimbursed by the Alan Murgatroyd Memorial Fund; the CIPD centrally will supply the names. The draw will be made at the Branch Annual Meeting on 5 May 2016 and the winners will be notified so that they may receive their cheque at a CIPD event of their choice. The winners will be asked to help out at a CIPD event, for example by helping at the registration desk or writing an event review for the newsletter.
Special Interest Groups
There are three Special Interest Groups (SIGs) within the Gloucestershire Branch.
The HR forum is designed for people who work at a strategic level within the HR field. This includes HR Directors, HR Consultants and professionals in other disciplines who are decision makers influencing their organisation’s senior management team on HR strategic issues.
Membership of the HR forum is open to both CIPD members and non-members who operate at this level.
The HR forum typically meets four times during the year and has an active email discussion group.
Topics for discussion are typically generated from within the group and are of current or strategic interest.
Meetings and venues are usually arranged a month prior to a meeting in order to be topical and relevant and are hosted by HR forum members at venues around the county.

The Independents' group is a forum for CIPD members and others who are working independently or are planning to, delivering HR and related service.
The group allows members to share their experiences, identify common issues and develop links.
There are no set criteria for membership other than the name so please feel free to come along.

Gloucestershire Learning & Development (GL&D)
GL&D is for those interested in Training, Learning and Development. It is for practitioners working within organisations or for those running their own L&D businesses.
Through the themes of 'Learn, Share and Discover' the events throughout the year will aim to introduce new L&D topics, to exchange thoughts and views on activities and resources, and to unlock new creative approaches to learning.
Meetings are arranged on a quarterly basis.

We want to see the Branch continue to stretch the standard for people management in Gloucestershire.
As a branch, we are committed to creating more opportunities for membership involvement, engaging with employers and other professional institutes locally on the back of national CIPD initiatives, giving you the events that you want and ensuring value for money.
We also represent local issues and interests in response to CIPD planning and government consultations, thus giving Gloucestershire members a direct influence on both how our institute develops and on wider public policy.
This means listening to your needs and responding to them. After all, this is YOUR branch, and our single focus is to serve you.
