We want to actively engage our members in our Branch activities, aiming to make your experience both enjoyable and informative by attending events, contributing to newsletters and by following us on social media.

In addition, we look to offer support and development opportunities at every level, give members assistance with CPD and help upgrading, and through our Group network support local educational establishments and students across the Branch as a whole.

Your comments and feedback are very welcome regarding any matters covering events or anything concerned with your Branch. Please feel free to contact us via our Branch Administrator;or by leaving a comment on our LinkedIn social media groups (the links to these are on the right hand side of this page).

In addition, please do consider volunteering for a role on any of our four Group Committees, you would be guaranteed to have a warm welcome and the opportunity of shaping your local CIPD at the grass roots! Contact our Branch Administrator to find out how you can help and what is involved.

As always, thank you for all your support by attending our events and on your behalf I would like to thank all committee members for their continued hard work and for providing their invaluable expertise in order that we can deliver a vibrant and professional service to our membership.

We very much look forward to seeing you soon.

About us

The Wessex Branch covers Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and parts of Wiltshire. This area is serviced by 4 Groups each of whom offer a programme of events designed to meet the varied needs of our members. The Groups are:

Andover and Salisbury

Dear members

With a successful 13/14 year behind us Andover & Salisbury Group committee have been hard at work putting together an exciting programme of events to take us through to May 15. Starting with the Employment Law Seminar led by James Humphery at Trethowans Solicitors, Salisbury in October. This is already well subscribed. There will be another Law update later in the training year at The Rendezvous, Andover with Jane Biddlecombe and Stephanie Merritt of Paris Smith solicitors. Conflict Masters – Sarah Crayford Brown and Alison Bennett will be starting off the New Year with Appraisals and those ‘oh so difficult conversations’ which on occasions can be the stuff of nightmares for some managers.

Following on from the brilliant session in the Spring of 2014 delivered with infectious enthusiasm by Professor Charlotte Rayner on meaning at work; Fiona Taylor-Scott will be consolidating this learning experience with an interactive workshop on ‘Practical ways to create meaningful work’ in March.

Neville Smith, after the 3 years dedication to the chairmanship of our Group, has decided to stand down. We all give our thanks for his help, encouragement to all over this time; we will be hanging on to his phone number in order to tap into his depth of experience and expertise that he is always willing to share. As a result I am very fortunate to take over a fantastic group of committee members, Steve Morgan, Ellie Conway, Fiona Taylor-Scott and Chloe Pepper who are all motivated, professional in their approach, and very committed to ensuring the 14/15 training programme for our Group is a great success. We, as a committee are looking forward to welcoming all who attend the planned events, and we very much hope the Continuing Professional Development opportunities offered by our Group will enhance and add value to CPD portfolios for members.

Andover and Salisbury Group Chair

Bournemouth, Poole and District

This is my 2nd year serving as the Chair for the Bournemouth, Poole and District Group, part of the Wessex Branch of the CIPD. The committee consists of Louise Woodward as Secretary, Donna Stonehouse as Treasurer and committee members: Bob Cox, Jonathan Saunders, Ned Seabrook, Averil Brown, Barras Stone, Jasmine Sharma, Heather Muirhead, Mark Saddington and Lucy Stocks. I would like to thank the committee for their support during 2013/2014 and look forward to working with them again in 2014/15.

As one of the largest Groups in the country, I am keen to attract more members to our events and the programme we have planned for the coming year will cover topics that I hope will be relevant for members operating across a wide range of businesses and HR sectors. I would value any comments or feedback from our members on our events as we go through the year.

We have set up a Linked In Group for you to join where you can check up on events, provide feedback or pose questions or queries, so please join the group to stay in touch.

Our first event will be an evening event held in October which will be a Legal Update from Kemp Jones Solicitors on Monday 13th October 2014 at the Bournemouth Football Club, we will holding some breakfast events which may be more convenient for some of you to attend.

For details of the forthcoming events for 2014/15 please go to our Linkedin site or our events page as we no longer send out ‘hard copy’ details of the year’s agenda. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at our forthcoming events and do please feel free to let me know any ideas you have for future event topics.

There have been so many outstanding events which your committee have organised this year and my thanks go to them for their hard work. The good news is that we still have some excellent events to come!

Then following this event with the Story of HR at Supergroup on the 22nd April 2015. To conclude our programme of events with something a little different on the 19th May, 2015 we have Goodwood with a presentation on their Times 100 Entry.

Please be aware that notes on presentations are available on our website for most events and you can download them by choosing Past Events, then find the event you attended and just click!

Welcome to the CIPD Southampton Group.

With over 1500 members in the Southampton Group, we are dedicated to supporting your professional development by offering opportunities to participate in events and share ideas, insights and good practice in an informal setting. We are very fortunate to have an enthusiastic committee who have been working hard to bring you a wide variety of topics and excellent speakers (most of whom give their time for free) to take us through the 2016 season.

The details of all our events are on Eventbrite together with those from other Groups within the Wessex Branch that may also be of interest. Book early to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited.

We really appreciate your support at our FREE events to keep the Group alive, but unfortunately we had a number of ‘no shows’ at many of our events last year which was disappointing. Due to the cost of hosting these events, your commitment in attending once booked would be greatly appreciated, otherwise we may have no option but to look at charging for these events in the future.

We are promoting our LinkedIn group as a forum where you can actively take part in discussions with your fellow Southampton Group CIPD members. We have nearly 300 members now and would welcome your contributions to keep the group active. To keep up to date and receive alerts to group emails, discussion and notifications, you can adjust your settings on the Information and settings icon near the top right task bar within each group.

In conclusion I would like to extend our thanks to Sarah Hornby, Treasurer and Patrick Homan-Berry, who left the committee at the end of 2015 after providing a sterling service for many years and giving their time freely. This is the start of my second year as Chair and I am very grateful to be part of a friendly and committed team, constantly striving to shape our professional support to local needs. We look forward to welcoming you to our events in the forthcoming year and thank you for your continued support.
