Understanding your personal values

There is an increasing amount of evidence to suggest that values-based leadership is among the most effective type of leadership processes, particularly at the strategic level. In this tool we show how the concept of values relates to identity, beliefs and the other aspects of an individual strategic leader's make-up. The exercise is appropriate for all levels of leader, particularly at the strategic level, and is relevant for all sizes of organisation, from small to large.

Tool aims
  • To provide participants with a working model to increase their understanding of both individuals and organisations
  • To identify where the issue of values fits in to that model
  • To help each participant develop a sense of his or her own personal values and those he or she would like to encourage throughout his or her organisation.
