When people hear a phone ringing, most want to stop what they are doing and answer it. There's the element of curiosity. Who's ringing? Why? It could be some news you've been waiting for or a message returned. The element of the unknown seems to be a powerful draw for many. So powerful that it becomes irresistible. And so, many people simply stop what they're doing, whether it is a meeting, an important piece of work or during leisure breaks, and simply answer the phone. And that's not restricted to when we're at work. The need to answer a mobile phone seems just as strong, especially as they are very often left permanently switched on.
