Absence management - introduction to practical skills

This tool introduces the generic skills and attributes that are needed when managing absence. Good communication is essential throughout the process and can make a big difference to how absence is managed and how one's management skills are perceived within the organisation. This applies both in dealing with individual employees and in demonstrating the organisation's commitment to absence management. Managers also require good listening skills and an ability to express empathy and to handle difficult situations.
