Whether or not self-appraisal is part of an organisation's appraisal system, the ability to appraise oneself is a useful skill. It helps with self-awareness and preparation for appraisal and performance reviews in general, makes it easier for appraisees to evaluate feedback from appraisers and is fundamental to the attitude of continuous improvement. It is, however, something in which few people have experience.
This tool, because of its slightly unusual beginning, is applicable to a wide range of people and is easily accepted by them.
