Feedback offered at the wrong time is, at best, ignored and, at worst, causes resentment. This tool can be used by trainers to help line managers identify their own readiness for feedback. They in turn can use the tool to assess the readiness of their staff members to receive feedback from them.
The model contained in this tool was created by Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham, hence the term 'Johari'. It is sometimes called the 'Johari window' because metaphorically it is a window with four panes through which anyone can consider their openness to feedback.
- To use the 'Johari window' to assess employees' readiness for feedback.
